This quarter provided numerous opportunities for Clinical Research Professionals (CRPs) to connect, exchange ideas, and stay informed on best practices. The Network of Clinical Research Professionals (NCRP) brought together key updates from the Miami Clinical and Translational Science Institute, Human Subjects Research Office (HSRO) and Investigator Initiated Trials Services (IITS-U).

Research Navigation and Quality Improvements

Miami CTSI Research Navigator, Patty Atkinson, presented enhancements to the Research Compass, highlighting its growing utility and the expanded support available to CRPs. Research Compass is a web-based, comprehensive guide for UM researchers and study teams to find critical, timely information at each stage of a research project lifecycle.

IITS-U emphasized the critical role CRPs play in identifying system challenges and infrastructure gaps. HSRO also shared upcoming improvements to research systems and processes.

Spotlight on Nursing Research

In April, Dr. Debbie Anglade, Clinical Associate Professor at UM’s School of Nursing and Health Studies and UHealth System Nurse Scientist, shared her professional journey and discussed her roles in the Nursing Magnet initiative and nursing research.

Clinical Trials Summit: Innovation in Focus

The quarter culminated in the Curating Connection Clinical Trials Summit, drawing together CRPs to explore innovations shaping daily research operations. The event, which was hosted by the UM Office of the Vice Provost for Research and Scholarship and the Miller School of Medicine Office of the Executive Dean for Research, included topics on FDA best practices, technology integration, and overcoming research challenges.

Dr. Shari Messenger, Miami CTSI Director of Biostatistics, Epidemiology & Research Design Support (BERD), led a session on key statistical design considerations for clinical trials.
