The CTSI Grant Writing Workshop is a blended interactive format designed to guide faculty step-by-step through the development of a competitive R grant application. Through a combination of structured online modules, in-person workshops, and one-on-one grant consultations, participants will complete a fully developed submission-ready proposal by the end of the course.

Through a series of lectures and interactive exercises, participants will gain the knowledge and skills needed to submit a successful grant application.

WHO SHOULD APPLY

Faculty in Assistant and Associate Professor roles currently preparing to submit ore resubmit an R grant.

HOW IT’S STRUCTURED

  • Monthly recorded 1-hour pre-learning lectures (beginning May 2026)
  • Six workshop sessions
  • One-on-one check-ins

FACILITATORS

Alan Delamater, PhD, ABPP, is a Professor of Pediatrics and Psychology at the University of Miami and has received 23 grants as a PI from federal agencies and national foundations over the course of his career. Since 1992, he has served consistently as a grant reviewer at the NIH, including 72 grant review panels.

April Mann, Ed.D., is Director of the Writing Center and is a Distinguished Senior Lecturer in the Department of Writing Studies. She also provides grant-writing support to the Miami Clinical and Translational Science Institute (CTSI).

PARTICIPATION REQUIREMENTS 

If selected, participants must commit to:

  • Viewing pre-recorded lectures prior to workshop sessions.
  • Completing associated grant preparation/writing assignments.
  • Attending all workshop sessions.
  • Actively engaging in feedback and revision processes.
  • Submitting a grant application for the October 2026 funding cycle.
