The University of Miami and Jackson Health System recently hosted a Live Virtual Research Town Hall as part of their ongoing Oneness Initiative in Research. This initiative, now more than three years in motion, has focused on bringing the two institutions closer together to streamline research processes, reduce turnaround times for study reviews, and increase transparency around project status. The Town Hall served as an opportunity to reflect on that progress and continue building momentum.

The event brought together members of the research community to hear directly from leaders who have been shaping this collaborative effort. Katuzka Barbery, Director of the Office of Research Administration at Jackson Health System, and Carl Schulman, M.D., Ph.D., M.S.P.H., Professor of Surgery and Director of the William Lehman Injury Research Center at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine, led the discussion. They addressed what it means to conduct research at Jackson Health System, shared updates on administrative improvements, and answered questions from attendees.

The Town Hall also featured remarks from Chris Ghaemmaghami, M.D., MHCM, Executive Vice President/Chief Physician Executive & Chief Clinical Officer at Jackson Health System, and Erin Kobetz, Ph.D., MPH, Co‑Director of the Miami Clinical Translational Science Institute. Both leaders emphasized the importance of continued partnership and open communication as the institutions work toward a more unified research environment.

The November 6, 2025 session underscored a shared commitment to supporting researchers, improving processes, and fostering a culture of collaboration across UM and JHS. As the Oneness Initiative continues to evolve, these conversations will remain essential to shaping a more efficient and transparent research ecosystem.
