The Society of Clinical Research Associates, Baptist Health South Florida, Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center, and the University of Miami Clinical Translational Science Institute present a panel discussion on Artificial Intelligence (AI) Perspectives in Clinical Research. Attendees will:
- Explore the potential advantages and pitfalls of using Artificial Intelligence (AI) in clinical research.
- Learn from other SOCRA S. Fla. Chapter members who have an interest in AI in clinical research.
- Network with other SOCRA S. Fla. Chapter members.
Panelists
Kenneth W. Goodman, PhD, FACMI, FACE, is the Founder and Director of the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine Institute for Bioethics and Health Policy, as well as the University’s Ethics Programs. His institute is recognized as a World Health Organization Collaborating Center in Ethics and Global Health Policy—one of only 14 globally and the only one in the U.S.
As a Professor of Medicine at the University of Miami, Dr. Goodman holds appointments in the Departments of Philosophy, Health Informatics, Public Health Sciences, and the School of Nursing. He previously served as Chair of the Ethics Committee of the American Medical Informatics Association (AMIA) and co-founded the Ethical, Legal, and Social Issues Working Group. Dr. Goodman is also a Fellow of the American College of Medical Informatics (FACMI), the American College of Epidemiology (FACE), and The Hastings Center.
Currently, Eduardo Martinez-DuBouchet, MD, serves as the Chair of System-wide Adult Critical Care and has played a vital role in system-wide sepsis coordination, establishing the Virtual Sepsis Unit and leading resource allocation during the COVID-19 pandemic across multiple hospitals in South Florida. He continues to practice bedside and telehealth Critical Care Medicine while holding administrative roles focused on improving quality and innovating care delivery. Additionally, he is a subject matter expert in machine-based learning clinical predictive analytics and serves as voluntary faculty for the FIU Department of Critical Care, co-directing the 4th-year Telehealth rotation.
Dr. Martinez DuBouchet began his career at the University of Miami in 2000 as an Assistant Professor of Medicine and Clinical Educator for the Internal Medicine Residency Program at Jackson Memorial Hospital. He served as Medical Director of the VAMC Emergency Department in Miami until 2006. In 2012, he earned Board Certification in Hospice and Palliative Care Medicine and has since held leadership roles on the Palliative Care Steering Council and Ethics consultation network for BHSF.
At the University of Miami, Yelena Yesha, PhD, holds the Knight Foundation Endowed Chair of Data Science and AI at the Frost Institute for Data Science and Computing (IDSC), where she also serves as the Innovation Officer and Head of International Relations. In these roles, she facilitates collaborations between faculty, government, and industry partners, helping to transform research ideas into innovative solutions.
She has authored or edited 11 books and published over 200 papers in prestigious journals and conferences, securing more than $50 million in external funding. Currently, she collaborates with leading industrial companies and government agencies on innovative technologies in blockchain, cybersecurity, and big data analytics, focusing on applications in electronic commerce, climate change, and digital healthcare. Dr. Yesha is also a Fellow of the IBM Centre for Advanced Studies.

The Don Soffer Clinical Research Building located at 1120 NW 14th Street, Miami, FL 33136, can be reached by Miami Metro Rail at the UHealth Jackson/Health District stop.
Driving from the North
Take I-95 South. Exit on SR-836 West. Exit SR-836 West on NW 12th Avenue. Make a right on NW 12th Avenue. Continue north.
Driving from the South
Take I-95 North. Exit on SR-836 West. Exit SR-836 West on NW 12th Avenue. Make a right on NW 12th Avenue. Continue north.
Driving from the West
Take SR-836 East and exit at NW 17th Avenue. Go north on NW 17th Avenue (a right turn). Cross the bridge and take the first right onto NW North River Drive. Continue straight (East) on NW North River Drive through a slight right turn at the second traffic light. The next light is NW 12th Avenue and NW 14th Street.
Parking
Validation will only be provided for attendees who park in the garage adjacent to the Don Soffer Clinical Research Building. Validation is not offered for street parking or other garages in the surrounding area.
