Biostatistics, Epidemiology and Research Design
The Miami CTSI Biostatistics, Epidemiology and Research Design (BERD) team advises, educates, and trains researchers in the design and analysis of clinical translational research studies.
Expert consultation and research support are available through the Biostatistics Collaboration and Consulting Core (BCCC) and educational opportunities through workshops and roundtables. An initial BCCC consultation is available to any investigator developing a protocol, at any stage, through CTSI support, and can help strengthen study design, sample size justification, and analysis plans. Continued or ongoing statistical support beyond the initial consultation may require additional funding.
The main goals are to:
- Provide research design and biostatistics support through the BCCC.
- Offer educational programs that serve the needs of clinical translational investigators.
The Biostatistics Collaboration and Consulting Core offers high quality statistical support for clinical and translational research. The objective BCCC is to enhance the University’s scientific mission by assuring appropriate planning and use of statistical methodology. Learn more about the support they provide here.
After submitting the Request Form, you will meet with the Core to discuss your project. The BCCC will then assess the required work and provide a fee estimate.
Offered are regular clinics and roundtables regarding statistical considerations in clinical and translational research. They are open to the entire research community at UM. Example topics presented include Experimental Design, Sample Size and Power Considerations in Clinical and Translational Research, Statistics 101, Statistical Considerations in Grant Development, Missing Data, An Introduction to R, and others.
