CTSI Program Directors Invited to Serve on Diversity Committees
Shari Messinger Cayetano, M.E., Ph.D., and Olveen Carrasquillo, M.D., M.P.H.
Shari Messinger Cayetano, M.E., Ph.D., Co-Director of the CTSI’s Biostatistics, Epidemiology and Research Design Program, has been invited by the Association for Clinical and Translational Science (ACTS) to serve on its newly formed Diversity Equity and Inclusion Committee.
The committee will develop strategies to address diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) across all ACTS activities as well identify key metrics on how to measure DEI within the association.
Dr. Messinger Cayetano will serve on the committee for two years. In addition to this role, Dr. Messinger Cayetano is Professor of Biostatistics and Director of the Biostatistics Collaboration and Consulting Core at the Miller School of Medicine.
Olveen Carrasquillo, M.D., M.P.H., Co-Director of the CTSI’s Community & Stakeholder Engagement and Participant & Clinical Interactions programs, was invited by the national Clinical and Translational Science Award (CTSA) Program to serve on its DEI Task Force.
Dr. Carrasquillo will join other members of the task force to review proposed DEI activities from hubs across the CTSA consortium and provide actionable suggestions to the CTSA Steering Committee with an aim of improving inclusiveness in clinical and translational research processes and enhancing diversity in the research workforce and among research participants.
Dr. Carrasquillo is also Professor of Medicine and Public Health Sciences and Chief of the Division of Internal Medicine at the Miller School of Medicine.
