CTSI Research Mentoring Co-Leader is New Director of Clinical Research

Dr. Maria Alcaide

The Office of the Executive Dean for Research has announced that Dr. Maria Alcaide will be the new Director of Clinical Research. Dr. Alcaide is Professor of Clinical Medicine at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine, Director of the University of Miami Infectious Diseases Research Unit and the Miami Center for AIDS Research (CFAR) Clinical Core.

Dr. Alcaide has more than 10 years of experience in HIV and Infectious Diseases Research in domestic and international settings. She has served as the Principal Investigator for numerous large multisite and multidisciplinary federally funded studies and pharmaceutical trials. In addition to her extensive research agenda, she plays an active role in mentoring the next generation of UM investigators as the co-leader of the Miami CTSI and CFAR research mentoring programs.

Dr. Alcaide’s vast clinical and translational research experience will help us foster and support collaborations between our partners (JHS, VA, etc.) to facilitate and strengthen clinical research operations.

Dr. Alcaide will liaise with the CTSI and OVPRS units to establish harmonized clinical operations guidelines, processes and tools which will assist investigators to successfully apply for and initiate clinical trials.

She will also provide support in developing research agendas and partnering with key stakeholders within and outside the Miller School of Medicine, and will provide guidance and recommendations for the growth and development of Clinical Research that supports the strategic plans of the Miller School of Medicine.
