6th Annual South Florida Community Health Worker and Patient Navigators Regional Symposium Recap
Florida Community Health Worker Coalition members and local health organization partners attended the 6th Annual South Florida Community Health Worker and Patient Navigators Regional Symposium on Florida certification for Community Health Workers on May 6 at Holy Cross Hospital in Fort Lauderdale.
The symposium provided an opportunity for Community Health Workers (CHWs) and patient navigators to receive valuable training in English, Spanish and Creole on topics such as nutrition and its impact on health, and provided updates about Florida CHW Certification information.
About 50 attendees representing the Southeast Florida region gathered to celebrate some of the newly certified Southwest Florida CHWs. Throughout the day, those in attendance got to meet and network with each other, including representatives from hospitals, nursing homes, insurance companies, community organizations, program funders, and health industry professionals.
Brendaly Rodriguez helped with event coordination as the Health Council of South Florida, Inc. MD-HAN Workgroup Leader, Co-President of the Florida Community Health Worker Coalition and manager for the Miami CTSI Community Engagement and Cultural Diversity Program.
The event partners and symposium presenters that participated in the event also included the Miami-Dade Action Network, the University of Miami Clinical and Translational Science Institute (CTSI), and Miami-Dade Medical College.
